1 Organization of winter service

Winter service is established at all international aerodromes and all domestic aerodromes with scheduled flight from the 1 October to 30 April.
The service includes snow clearing, friction improving measures and condition reporting in the movement area.
Runway condition report for international and domestic airports is published by SNOWTAM message during aerodrome opening hours.
The report is also available upon contact with ATC/AFIS.
Measured friction values (mu-numbers) are not submitted.
Runway condition for BIRK, BIAR, and BIKF is also submitted via ATIS.
At Keflavik Airport (BIKF) formates may be in use for friction improvement in the movement area (Potassium formate, sodium formate).
